2015 Is Here – Let’s Do This!

2015 is here – let’s do this!

Wow! Has it really been two months since I last posted a blog? That’s bad! But what can I say? December was ridiculously busy, not just because of Christmas, my birthday and New Year, but simply, I was working for most of it as well as being ill too!

Being ill for most of December has really hit me hard in terms of my running. I’m more gutted at the fact that my body was slowly, but surely, adapting to running longer reps in training and that I was starting to adjust to running paces. That and the fact that I could run consistently quick for longer that I ever have.

I’ve only JUST got over this cold. It’s lingered and really hit my chest – hard. Coughing and wheezing, it’s been a right nightmare to have, especially trying to run. Running for the Metro to get to work was like running 10 miles all over again, when it’s not even 400m away from my flat.

Nonetheless, it’s time to take running serious!

Over the Festive break I received two gifts that would change my approach to running. One, was a Garmin Forerunner 10, YES! I was up a height when I was given this, I can actually see how far I’ve ran, how fast I’ve ran and my pace throughout, it’s going to make things a lot more easier.

The other gift I was given, was for my birthday. It was a pair of Adizero Adios Boosts, something I wasn’t expecting and was hugely grateful to receive. Now 2015 can be the year I really go for it! There was no better way to start the year as I hope to end it, on a giant hill with lactic acid filling up my legs – oh how I’ve missed that! It was also a good way to test out the new kit.

Looking back, 2014 was an awful year, personally, but a good year for my running. I ran numerous PB’s for the Parkrun, the mile, 10k and ran my first ever Half Marathon, so I can’t really grumble or be disappointed in my first year as a runner, just means I have to work twice as hard this year to run better.

Already, I’ve entered the ballot for the Great North Run via the Daily Mirror, I kind of wish I paid for the membership, but the timing of it was awful and financially, I couldn’t take the risk, maybe after this year’s run I might, we’ll see.

Last year, the focus was on the GNR, however this year has another event I want to add onto the list, The Blaydon Race.

For years, I’ve heard about this event, but never seen it up, close and personal. I’ve seen local sports writers tweet about how they’ve ran it time and time again as well as my Uncle Bob and Cousin Jill running it for years, It was the latter that really sold me to it, more recently too. It’s the kind of event that is steeped in tradition, one of the many things that attract me to races these days. Will it be successful with my entry? I don’t know, but I have my fingers crossed that I am and that I get the nod in the Ballot for the GNR.

Hopefully, I should be able to blog a bit more frequently now that the holidays are over, and I have quite a few topics to cover.

This post was simply to say that the blog is still alive and to why I’ve not been posting recently.

I hope this year brings good fortune, mind. I want to reap the benefits of hard training and even maybe push for a top 10 finish somewhere, that’s just one of the few goals I have this year as well as one eye on the North East Blogger Awards too 😉
